5.0 out of 5 stars - "Written With Gusto!"

Growing up in Bath Beach, Brooklyn, a well-known Mafia hub, I recalled a lunch meeting at the Famous Cafeteria on 86th Street with Joe McKeon (a real Damon Runyon Character.)

“Frankie, remember: Nobody gets killed for nuttin.”

I’ll never forget his message…

Excerpt:

“Our restaurant was located in the heart of Bath Beach and was considered a good safe place for the “Boys” to meet. The food prepared by the chef (Fat Jack) was always top shelf, and the veal was always tender. On Thursday nights at 7:30, a good-looking guy would quietly enter the restaurant and sit at a corner table. He would be very well dressed in an Italian handmade, extremely expensive, Brioni suit, monogrammed white shirt with French cuffs, and always with a good-looking wife or girlfriend. His hands were perfectly manicured with polished fingernails – not painted but buffed.

In a low-pitched voice, he would order a bottle of Bolla Bardolino and a bottle of San Pellegrino mineral water with gas. He and his lady would talk, and when they were ready, they would signal the waiter to the table…”

“An excellent read about life in the author’s cherished neighborhood at his home and in his restaurant serving and observing the characters that gathered there. It’s a must have for the additional recipes that the author includes at the end of the book.”
